This is an example of one of the videos that got ruined by the flash. It may not be one we would of used for our final ident however this is just an example of how the flash effected the video.

Our Ident Shoots
After we uploaded our videos we went through all the clips we shot to see what looks best and what went wrong. Looking at the videos some are ruined by a flash from a camera as Louisa was taking pictures when we were in the studio so this effected our videos as the studio lighting automatically connected to her camera and set it off through some of the videos. I noticed when filming that the flash effected the video so every time she took an image i stopped the video straight away and started again. This is why we have so many videos. However, we have quite a few good videos. In my opinion i think letting the balloon rotate naturally looks the best, even though it is slow, it looks good but we can edit the video to make it faster so it is not a problem. I also like the shot where Kayley is holding the balloon at the bottom and slowly lets it go up to the top of the room.
Filming
Last week, we bought our blue number 2 balloon and went into the studio to film our ident. At first we had a little trouble with groups going into the studio as we weren't organised and didn't ask to use it first however because our balloon wouldn't last until the next week, one of the other groups let us go first. We went into the studio and film the balloon spinning around, blowing in the wind (using the fan) and many other ways. We decided to do lots of different things to the balloon so we had a choice of what looked best. We took videos of the balloon from different angles, views and distance. We also used the studio lighting in studio to create a shadow of the number 2, we only decided this when we saw it created a number 2 on the back wall, and we thought it would look quite good. We experimented with the lighting as we were going to use colour backdrops to tint the colour of the light reflecting on the balloon. However the tinted lighting didn't work very well as it wasn't a very strong, bright colour and didn't look very good. Overall we took 27 videos.
We decided to go into the studio as we could control the space. We had full control on how the video would look. Where as if we were to go outside we couldn't quite control the lighting and how the balloon was moving. I feel our decision to work in the studio was a good idea as it was warm and we wouldn't rush it because we were cold. Also working in the studio, we were able to choose the background we wanted however we choose to stick with the plain white background so the blue balloon would stand out more. We were able to choose the lighting effects in the video, and we got experiment with this so this was a bonus because we could try out different colours, even though we never used them in the end. We were also able to create a windy effect by using the fan. By being in the studio we were able to do majority of the stuff we could create outside.

Channel 4 idents: Rocks
I like this ident. I think that channel 4 have very creative and good idents, however they are very similar just made out of different objects/buildings. They have idents made out of the Blackpool Tower, Council Estate, American Diner, Hay Bales and many more. They are very well made but it would be impossible for us to make something like the Rocks as we can't carve it out of rocks or have the technology to do this digitally.
Balloons
Today, We went out into to town to see roughly how much this ident is going to cost for us to produce. We went to a number of birthday/card shops and looked at a number of 2 Balloons. We went in shops like Birthdats, Clinton Cards, Card Factory, Write a Card and many more. We found out that there isn't much difference in prices in each of these shops as they are priced between £6.99 and £7.99. This means we don't really have to go to a specific shop. We want a specific colour so we have crossed out a number of shops to go to as they don't have the colour we want. We would like to get a blue balloon.
I have also been looking online at balloon prices to see if they are any cheaper on line. The image below is a screen grab of a balloon price I have found online. This shows that online prices are cheaper than buying it upfront in a shop. The only down side to buying this online, is we can't predict when it will arrive buy so it is a little unreliable. Also it says the measurements in the description so we would have to compare it to one in the shop so that we are certain it is the right size.
Below is a screen grab of internet prices for the Number 2 Balloons. Some of the prices shown below have delivery prices and some of are free and this varies the prices of the balloons. However, majority of the prices shown are cheaper than shop prices.
We have decided to buy the balloon from a shop in town as £6.99 divided by 3 isn't that much for all of us to pay. It also allows us to buy the balloon on the day we want/need it. Also if we buy it from the shop they will blow it up there and then for us where as if its off the internet we would have to find away to blow it up. Buying it from the shop is more convent and easier for us.

History of BBC Idents
BBC television idents began in the early 1950s, when BBC first showed there logo between adverts/breaks to identify the service and make the channel well known. As new technology has become available, these devices have evolved from simple still black and white images to the sophisticated full colour short films seen today.
This was the first ident to be shown on BBC. You can see the difference in the changes of the adverts as technology has changed.

The first ident, "Television Symbol", or the "Bat's Wings" (1953–1960)
The circle idents were introduced on October 7, 2006

What we are going to use to film our ident..
To record our ident we will be using a flip camera. A flip camera is a small video camera but digitally records film in High Definition. It is a really easy equipment to use as you just press the big red record button and upload it with the flip out USB connection.
We could also use a Canon 5D to record our video if we would like to. The EOS 5D is compatible with over 60 EF lenses (excl. EF-S) and all EX Series Speedlite flash units. Untethered shooting is available with the optional WFT-E1 Wireless File Transmitter. USB 2.0 Hi-Speed permits fast file uploads, while Video Out allows review on a regular TV. An optional magnesium alloy battery grip extends shooting time and offers comfortable portrait shooting with a vertical shutter release. A Precision Matte focusing screen is interchangeable with Grid and Easy Manual Focus screen options.
We have the choice of what type of recording device we would like to use. However, this is subject to availability as there is only one Canon 5D, we would have to maybe book it in advance to make sure we could use it, if we were 100% sure we wanted to use it. However, the other option is to use the flip camera, which we have a number of, so this wouldn't be a problem to use.

Our Final Idea..
Our final idea my idea to use Number 2 Balloons and set them off. We have decided as a group to make two idents but in different locations. As we are going to produce our first version outside. We are going to use the rugby pitch/field behind the college as our outside location. We are going to shot the video outside on a nice sunny day so we have the bright blue sky in the back ground, if not we will have to video in what ever the weather conditions are like. We are going to tie clear string/wire to the balloons so they are like kites, so we don't lose them.
The other ident will be taken in the studio. This will give us the chance to experiment with the lighting and makes sure its how we want it. It means we have more control over the shoot. We will use the white background in our video so it is easier to edit the video. We have decided to create a number of videos in the studio so when it comes to editting we can put them on top of each other to create a number of 2's in the ident as we don't want to buy loads of balloons as it would cost too much. We will take each video from different lengths so the sizes of the balloons are different. We also will have to make sure that the balloons are in different areas of the area so none of the balloons over lap each other when they are put together.
We are going have to make sure we are prepared for the day we are shooting and make sure we do as many shots until its perfect as the balloons won't last more than a few days so we can't shot on different days. This is important as it means if we don't get it right then we will have to spend unnecessary money on more balloons. This will increase the price of the making of the ident and we want to keep costs to a minimum. We will have to try our bests to complete it all in one day. Unfortunately we aren't going to be able to produce a test shoot as this would cause us to spend more money.
